Women Physicians of APPNA or WAPPNA is an organization formed by women physician members of APPNA.

It works under the umbrella of its parent organization APPNA with the same tax id. It is a secular organization which opens its doors to all women physicians of Pakistani descent regardless of color, religion and other orientations. This organization was formed for the following main purposes:

1. Social and professional networking within its members (but not limited to just its members)

2. Providing a forum to its members for problem solving and social support purposes.

3. Planning and execution of Social Welfare, health care and education projects here and in Pakistan benefiting all women under the premise that such projects will also help children and hence benefit the next generation.

4. Currently APPNA has 640 women members which is roughly one fourth of total APPNA membership.  Using the platform of WAPPNA we hope to benefit APPNA by bringing in more members within the fold of APPNA.

Current Projects

Currently WAPPNA is working the following main projects:

1. Commissioning a report on procuring special funding for opening shelters for abused and internally displaced women in Pakistan and vocational schools within those shelters. This report will be presented to the appropriate congressional caucus in March for appropriation of  funds.

2. WAPPNA is working to support Julian Center IN a shelter for abused and battered women of all races providing these women financial, emotional, vocational and immigration services.

Summer Meeting 2009

We had a very successful first meeting in San Francisco, CA in July 2009. Our key note speakers included:  Dr Maleeha Lodhi former Pakistan Ambassador to USA. She spoke about her personal perspective on being a successful Pakistani professional woman. Dr Rafia Zakaria a human rights attorney who spoke about Julian Center a shelter for abused women in Indiana. We also had Mr Anwar Saeed Daily Dawn's media chief in Washington DC give a very humorous speech and Ms Farzana Khaira an attorney who spoke about how to donate legally in this country. We had about 150 people attend the luncheon meeting.
