Regarding the Oklahoma Tornado
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
In the wake of the terrible tragedy in Oklahoma on May 20, 2013, APPNA is sending out its prayers and good thoughts to those affected. APPNA keeps in its thoughts the families that lost loved ones, homes, jobs and belongings due to this disaster. APPNA understands that a devastating tornado touched down in the suburb of Moore near Oklahoma City destroying neighborhoods including two elementary schools and a hospital leading to severe loss of life and property. So far more than fifty people have perished and many more are seriously injured with these numbers increasing rapidly. Emergency officials are rescuing people and National Guard has been called to aid in the relief effort. APPNA locals will also be helping out in these efforts.
APPNA professes it sincere sadness for the loss suffered by the people of Oklahoma and is definitely ready to provide any and all help necessary. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy and we ask our membership to support the relief efforts through donation. We are sending email communication to the membership with a link on our website to donate to those in that have been most affected in these events.
National Wear Red Day® is a day of action to show support for women and heart disease awareness and promote the Red Dress as a national symbol. On the first Friday in February each year, women and men across the country can unite in the national movement to give women a personal and urgent wake up call about their risk of heart disease. "Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear—It's the #1 Killer of Women"
Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts — every day, women are dying at the rate of almost one per minute. Show your support for the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red on February 1st. It’s an easy, powerful way to raise awareness of the No. 1 killer of women - heart disease.
"'Going Red' is as easy as putting on a red dress, a red tie or a red dress pin. Just Wear Red to show your support."
"Heart disease is the #1 killer of women. Women in our community are at great risk. One out of every two women will die of heart disease in the USA. The prevalence may be higher in those of Southeast Asian origin. Women must empower themselves with the knowledge to recognize a heart attack, and take steps that are necessary to prevent heart disease. Know your target cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and waist circumference. Exercise and lower stress in your life. Remember, 'Love your heart to Live your heart'.”
